back to the basic!

ever wonder why when you need to overtake some vehicle, your car feel sluggish and it seems like overtaking a vehicle takes you forever? and when you need to feel the adrenalin rush, but you car cannot provide that feel of satisfaction? ok. i have some tips on improve your car performance with some very basic modifications (i mean really basic). there are a few things you can take note of which are intake, exhaust, ignition and pulleys.

  1. Ok guys, let us start with intake first. Intake system is how your breathe. Better air flow provides better breathing for you. There are 2 types of basic intake modifications which are drop-in and open pod system. Drop-in is a direct plug&play item which just swap with your current paper air filter. It's a good upgrade for those who are not aggresive type of driver and it remains the stock look. For open pod, it needs proper piping to attach the air filter to the throttle body or carburetor. However it is good for those who love high rev (partly due to the induction sound). But it requires cold air intake for it as car performs better with cold air. What determine the type/brand of air filter you should look for? it's depends on your driving style, future major modifications (some prefer open pod), level of filtration, amount of air flow, reusable/washable and reliability. There are some brands you can scout for like k&n (i'm using the drop-in type), Blitz, HKS, and Apexi. Price wise from rm150-rm400.
  2. Then we move on to ignition. The basic ignition modifications is choosing the right spark plugs. Spark plugs provide sparks for combustion and better sparks=better power. There are a few types of spark plugs such the commonly used copper plugs, platinum plugs and ever popular iridium plugs. Lifespan of spark plugs depends on the types of spark plugs (copper, platinum, and iridium). This trend also applies on the performance and the pricing of the plugs (rm20-rm300). Choose the heatrange and gapping size which recommended by the car manufacturer. Also, custom side-gapped spark plugs have better power (slight) compare with plugs without custom side-gapped.
  3. Pulleys. You can find a few types of pulleys in your engine and normally camshaft pulley and crankshaft pulley are the those you should concentrate on. For camshaft campulley, most aftermarket pulleys are lightened and adjustable which means you are able to retard(better top end power) or advancing(better low end power) the engine timing. This is altering the engine powerband. Normally adjustable cam pulley is paired with aftermarket camshaft in order to get the powerband you want. If without aftermarket camshaft, improvement of installing it on twin cam engine(requires 2 adjustable pulleys) is more significant than in single cam engine. Brands like Arospeed has adjustable cam pulley for various rides with price from rm150-rm300. Ok let's move on with crank pulley. Most of aftermarket crank pulleys are lightened. Some are with harmonic dampener while some do not have it. Most of these pulleys are made of high quality aluminium(some kononnye lah). It's advisable to go for dampened ones as it protect your crankshaft for long term but of course this type of pulleys are more costly (twice the price of those withour damper). It improves the low end power which is good for traffic jam and city driving. Price wise varies from rm200-rm600. The famous brand is Mythelogy.
  4. Lastly, exhaust system. This minor modification is the best bang for bucks. The most common and cheapest way to increase your HP. In exhaust system, we have extractor/exhaust header or manifold, piping, center bullet/box, and rear muffler. The most vital part of the system is extractor(header/manifold). There are generally 2 types of extractors which are 4-2-1 or 4-1. 4-2-1 is 4 pipes into 2pipes then into 1 while 4-1 is from 4 pipes straight into 1. 4-2-1 is mainly for daily usage (reasonably power throughout the powerband) while 4-1 is mainly for high rev beast (high end power). The pros or cons of an extractor is depending on whether the length of each pipe is properly tuned or not and whether the extractor is mandrel bent(constant inner diameter for better flow) or not. So choose a tuned length and mandrel bent extractor. Ok let's talk about piping size. Piping size is important and it's not always the bigger the better. Choose the size wisely and the bending of the piping should opt for mandrel bent. Use back original route as straight piping is road illegal and dangerous (right underneath the fuel tank). Center bullet/mid box are called resonators (if i'm not mistaken). Main function is lower down the noise emission and provide swirling effect. Then, muffler is the rear part of the exhaust. There generally 2 types which are straight flow and s-flow. Straight flow muffler is good for pick up but top end wise might lose out a bit while s-flow muffler provides better top end which good for frequent highway users. Generally, straight flow muffler are louder than s-flow muffler. For auto transmission rides, it's advisable to use s-flow muffler to maintain the backpressure. There are generally 2 types or materials which use in exhaust system which aluminized steel and stainless steel. Some exhaust system is made up of titanium and even carbon fiber (for muffler). Price wise for whole setup varies from rm500 to rm2000 (local cars, foreign cars might cost even more). Too many brands for you choose but choose wisely. Don't choose cap ayam because what you pay is what you get!

All of the above are meant to improve performance/power for entry level. There are more modifications later on which requires more survey and studies in order to sort out which is suitable for you and your car. Hope you guys have fun while modding your car. Peace out! haha!

ps: all of the above are purely guidelines. pls correct me if i'm wrong. all comments are welcomed! thx~

Barisan Nasional World Records!

found a very interesting article from Malaysia-Today. here it goes~

THANK YOU BN. For giving us the World’s Healthiest Country. Even as the Elections Commission, your own agents, ooops ... I mean er... civil servants, admitted one week before the elections, Malaysia has more than 8,500 voters aged over 100! Dear BN, what’s your secret? Do these super-old voters drink ginseng? Tongkat Ali? Or indelible ink?

THANK YOU BN. For giving us the World’s Most Expensive Car Jack. As the Auditor General’s Report released last year showed, you used our money to buy car jacks at RM5,741 each when it costs only RM50 per piece in the hardware store. I understand that these fantastic tools can “jack up” not only cars but even Datuks all the way up to the Fourth Floor of Pak Lah’s Minister Mentor.

THANK YOU Umno. For the World’s Greatest U-Turn. Last November, when HINDRAF (HINDu Rights Action Force) Indians demonstrated in KL to protest their “marginalisation” by the Umno-controlled government, you condemned them as “ruffians” who would jeopardise social stability, tourism and foreign direct investment (FDI).

But one week after elections, Umno itself demonstrated in Penang, Ipoh and Shah Alam claiming that the new State Governments there will “marginalise” the Malays. And no doubt, they want to “promote” inter-racial harmony, social stability, tourism and FDI with slogans like: “Don’t play fire with Malay rights!” So dear Umno, why don’t you call yourselves MALRAF - MALay Rights Action Force!

THANK YOU Gerakan. For the World’s Smartest Economic Policy. As revealed by blogger (and now MP) Jeff Ooi, former Chief Minister Koh Tsu Koon used taxpayers’ money to give Motorola a RM1 billion (that’s RM1,000 million) contract, so that the American electronics company would announce (just before the elections) a RM350 million investment in Penang to “prove” that the state was still economically “competitive”. Wow, what a vote of “confidence” in Penang’s economy!

THANK YOU Umno for the World’s Greatest Irony. Last November, you accused HINDRAF of causing losses to businesses and traffic jams (when it was actually the massive police roadblocks/crackdown that caused the jams/chaos). You said such protests were “not our culture” and a “threat to national security” worthy of ISA detentions.

But now Umno’s MALRAF has shown that such protests are indeed part of Malaysian, or at least, Malay culture. And the best part was that they proved we could have peaceful demonstrations – as long as the police behave professionally. In other words, Umno’s demonstrations have truly “demonstrated” that 50 year old Malaysia is mature enough to allow people to “let off steam” by shouting and holding banners for an hour or two without incurring National Apocalypse.

And then after all that shouting and sweating, habis cerita! We Malaysians (who are so bored that we stop our cars to look at road accidents) finally get some street entertainment and after that all the crowds go for their teh tarik and roti canai. Hey, that’s good business for the mamak shops you know!

But if you ask me, the true MALRAF are the many Malays who protested against BN policies through their votes, especially in Kedah, Kelantan, Penang, Perak, Selangor and KL. Just as the majority of Chinese did an electoral CHINRAF.

So what shall we call those Umno demonstrators? How about MONEYRAF? A MONEY Rights Action Force to demand their “Malay rights” privileges to “buta gaji” contracts, projects, AP’s and share allocations so that they (and their Mak Datin wives) can continue to buy their BMW’s (and “ori-punya” Gucci handbags) while the real makciks struggle to make a living selling mee goreng at the roadside.

THANK YOU Selangor BN, for being the World’s Most Environment-Friendly Government. DAP Kampung Tunku State Assemblyman, Lau Weng San, has lodged a police report over alleged destruction of documents by the previous Selangor State Government. Pictures have appeared on the internet of files strewn all over office floors.

Perhaps they were shredding all that paper to recycle into tissue paper? To wipe away the s**t before it hits the fan when the new Menteri Besar takes over? Ah, what fragrant records they shall leave behind... how eco-friendly of them!

THANK YOU MCA. For giving us the World’s Best “Buy One Free One!” Special Offer. This means the voters can Buy Opposition and Still Get Free BN Service!

Despite Pak Lah threatening the Chinese that they would “lose representation” in the government if they voted for the Opposition, the MCA still got their four Minister’s posts in Pak Lah’s new Cabinet. Of course, these Minister-ships have little real power anyway.

For example, even though the MCA got a massive “mandate” in the 2004 elections, the MCA “Minister of Housing and Local Government” (H&LG) never had power over housing and local government. Why? Because these matters are actually (in the Constitution, no less) under the jurisdiction of State Governments! The Minister of H&LG could not appoint Majlis Perbandaran Councillors or give approvals for housing projects. In fact, he himself once complained that Local Councils were not implementing his proposals for more CCTV’s, street barriers and well-lighted pavements under the “Safe City Concept”.

As MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting said himself on March 9, the party “accepted and respected the people’s decision” and would “continue to fight” for the rights of the community and country. As The Star reported, he also urged MCA candidates with good track records “not to be affected” by their defeat and to “carry on serving” the community. One example is the hardworking MP Lee Hwa Beng, who despite being defeated by the young man who filmed the VK Lingam video, has sportingly agreed: “I will keep my service centre open.” Well done sir.

In other words, the people get the BEST OF BOTH WORLDS. We get more of an Opposition voice in Parliament and we still get the BN reps to help us with complaints of blocked longkangs, blinking street-lights and bloody road potholes. Well, how else can they hope to win back our votes in 2013?

BUT what if the new State Governments transform the Majlis Perbandaran’s to become more efficient? To do the bloody blinking jobs they were paid to do in the first place? What will happen to the MCA’s Majlis Perbandaran Liaison Officer and Petition Writer roles? Oh oh... looks like the MCA reps have to urgently reinvent and rebrand themselves.

THANK YOU Elections Commission (EC). For giving Malaysia the World’s Most Advanced Technology. Before this, we’ve only seen “tele-portation” on Star Trek – you know, like when Captain Kirk or Dr. Spock says “beam me up” and they are instantly “tele-transported” in a sort of large laser beam from some strange planet back to the mother spaceship.

But BERSIH, the elections reform group, says that you, the EC, have managed to transfer voters (possibly thousands) from Selangor to places like Kelantan and Terengganu without even their knowledge. How many of these people could actually drive five to eight hours all the way there to vote? PAS claims that at least 200 buses of “phantom voters” were brought into Terengganu and its President, Hadi Awang says police “escorted them like VIP’s”.

No wonder the cartoonist Zunar calls you, the EC, a “component party” of the Barisan Nasional. Come on... don’t so like dat-lah. I mean, congratulations on such marvellous technology and all that. But dear EC, at least you should have the basic courtesy to “tele-transport” voters only after they say “beam me up”. Not before, OK?

What’s next EC? Al Jazeera TV reported on March 9 that you could stuff 560 “registered voters” into one street of small terrace houses in Cheras, Selangor. You even had the sense of humour to stuff 26 of them into the same 1,400 sq ft house (perhaps to share the bathroom?) as the brother of Jenice Lee (now elected as DAP State Assemblywoman for Teratai, Selangor).

Now, we all know that great progress is being made in “data compression” technology. For example, we used to need two or three pieces of VCD’s for one movie whereas nowadays, you can stuff five or even more movies into just one piece of DVD. So... for 2013, I am looking forward to the EC’s “best-punya” world-class technology – to stuff 30 “registered voters” into the dog kennel behind my house!

THANK YOU MIC. For the World’s Best SMS jokes! Allow me to jazz them up.

“Hi. My friend is looking for a job. Construction background. His education not that strong. But can “kau tim” things. Any buildings collapse, he will say Act of God. He was with Malaysian Govt past 30 years. Last job: Works Minister. His name is Samy Vellu. Please help him to get at least toll gate collector job. Thanks.”

And you probably also heard the “latest news” that Samy Vellu is now a film producer in Bolehwood? His first movie will be Kuch Kuch Kalah Hai starring Mydin Khan, Sharizat Rai, Kayveas Kapoor, Koh Tsu Khan and Khir Tempe Blachan. Special guest appearances by Khairy Kumar and Bobby Badawi.

And lastly, there was this: Breaking news! Samy Vellu is very angry and will leave MIC to form a new political party for Indians called Parti Untuk Kaum India MAlaysia - PUKIMA.

some tips!

To all drivers. some of you might wanna know how to increase your car mileage and some basic maintenance without spending much money and any major modifications. i have a few tips that could help you on how to make your ride a fuel saving baby. but before i share them with you guys, some of the tips might differ as every car has its own characteristics.

  1. Always have your car undergo regular service. Have engine oil and oil filter changed every 5000km or 3months interval for those who are using mineral based engine oil. Engine oil change interval could differ if your using semi-synthetic based or fully-synthetic based. Make sure that you use the engine oil rating (such as 10w-40, 20w-50, 0w-30 and etc) that is suitable for your car. As for better fuel consumption wise, using fully-synthetic based engine oil is the best but due to the viscosity, some car might facing the oil consumption problem and might require checking on engine oil level which can be easily done by pulling the dipstick to check. Make sure that the engine oil is at 3/4 level or full and engine oil level checking should be done at the early morning before you start the car and on level ground.
  2. Always refuelling at slower rate. Higher rate might introduce air into your fuel tank instead petrol. (it might take a longer to fully refuelling your car, so just bear with it).
  3. Always drive will light right foot. For manual transmission users, try change gear at 2k to 2.5k RPM. You will notice better fuel consumption with this driving habit.
  4. Always check your tires pressure. Make sure the pressure pumped is according to the manufacturer's recommendation. However it is advisable to pump in a little bit of higher than require. You will get better traction and prolong your tires lifespan. And have them rotate for every 8000-10000km. Lifespan of the tires can easily checked by examine the thread depth (worn out tire has lower depth). Healthy tires=good FC and safe.
  5. Remove excessive weight from your car such as books, rubbish, and all useless items. Lighter car means lesser power required to make the car move.
  6. Reduce in air-cond usage also contribute to better fuel consumption.
  7. Regular engine tuning is advisable (especially for carb car). For fuel injection cars (modern cars), the ECU will learn your regular driving habits and adjusting the engine performance accordingly.
  8. Change air filter, spark plugs, fuel filter and timing belts accordingly. Clogged air filter will resulting in bad fuel consumption. And snapped timing belts might cause you a bomb on overhauling your car.
  9. Have brake pad and brake fluid replacement according to ensure better braking performance and safety. If squeaky brake noises and spongy brake pedal feeling, it is time for you to do brake rotor skimming. This is due to the rotor wears off by brake pads.
  10. Also, have your coolant changed accordingly to ensure better cooling system and prevent rust within the radiator.
  11. Never spend money on fuel saving devices as most of them are useless.
  12. Always have your refuelling done at night. Lower temperature thus less petrol will get evaporated.
  13. When stuck in traffic jam, always accelerate your car gently and brake gently. Sudden accelerate and braking will cause bad fuel consumption.
  14. Certain speed (90-100kmh on highway) would provide better fuel consumption.
  15. Some minor modifications with correct setup would resulting better fuel consumption such as installing an aftermarket air filter and spark plugs.

Ok, there are many more tips but i cannot list them down here and i will continue to post more tips for you guys. Also, i will share more info on what are the basic modifications that one can start with. So stay tuned!

- PS : All the tips stated above are purely guidelines only and it depends on car type. Please kindly correct me if i am wrong.

it is true!

the 12th general election of Malaysia has drawed to a close. suprisingly the opposition has successfully denied BN 2/3 majority and took over 5 states which are Kelantan, Kedah, Perak, Pinang and Selangor. They also took charge of FT Kuala Lumpur. Many major upset like Samy&Co. Hope this new era will bring us to a better future! LONG LIVE BARISAN RAKYAT!
by the way i found an article by a sabahan's point of view about the BN clean sweep of Sabah (ALMOST).. let's see what he got to say

First of all, congratulations for those folks in Kedah, Perak, Kelantan, Penang and Selangor for having the guts to changes. And, the utmost congratulations the folks in Sabah for showing their true color, which is, being dumb and dumber.

For being Sabahan, I’m disgusted, ashamed, frustrated, fooled, dismayed, shocked and whatever feeling ones felt if being let down. Well, this is only me saying and Sabahan has decided ‘we truly love BN!’ saying out loud.

For the next five years, we Sabahan should glorify and never ever complained wrong doing. Again, we Sabahan have decided, right?

We will glorify corrupt act, support corrupt politicians to the very ends. If it requires, we shall assist them in their unlawful activity or simply closed one eye.

We will go all out partying for having another or a couple more case of Donni John Duin, 11 years old, who committed suicide because his family was poor. A boy that age knows the shame of being poor, an adults like the most of us are too dumb to have that thoughts. Again, congratulations to Sabahan for supporting poverty elongation plan.

Hike of petrol price, don’t complain Sabahan, we have supported this plan and motive when we gave BN the land slide victory. Be happy to let your children walk on foot to school, as no money to run your motorbike. Tell the housewives it is all in the plan to have increase in essential goods.

Be proud to have illegal immigrants to invade your land, after all, BN owed their favor during this election. Please welcome them with open heart, show them our courtesy and show them where to build their new homes on our ancestral land.

Rest assure, the village road to your kampongs to be muddy as before, as giving BN the mandate the so called Sabah Development Corridor will go on, and guess what? No budget or allocations for your kampong road. Hooray!

Sabah Development Corridor planning; where the money coming from, there are many more ‘Corridors’ around Malaysia , any allocations for Sabah ? If there is any, rest assures my dear Sabahan, you’ll not going to benefit them at all. It is still falls to those cronies, poor Sabahan are not qualified as main cronies.

The Sabah Baru/Bodoh new pledges:

- We will support corruptions

- We will support the plans for hunger and proud being poor

- Illegal immigrant will be sheltered, educate and given proper employment

- We can live with inadequate basic necessities, rationed water supplies are ok, partial electricity supplies are ok, no lights on main road are ok, muddy kampong roads are ok, in short living like third world country is OK.

- Supporting in the rise of daily cost of living, such as, hike in petrol price indirectly raise the cost of living. With the recent ‘contribution’ by BN during campaigning will eventually offset these rises.

- We will support ethnic marginalization

- We will support ‘restricted’ religious so called freedom

- We will support unfair education system

- And most of all we will support LIES.

With this I rest my case.
